Although this period was particularly stressful for low-income families, and communities of color we disproportionally threatened, our program made every effort to let families at risk know that they were not alone.
We used our grant money to create art bags, with all the necessary supplies for the video lessons we created. Our staff hand delivered these art bags to 40 students for two years. We also met individually and in groups on Zoom, and outside, when possible.
One of the benefits of having an established program within the community, is that we created the foundation for trusting, kind relationships. We are gratified that we were able to hear from our families so frequently and consistently.
Seeing their beautiful faces and artwork made it all a little bit more tolerable! We even put on our gallery celebration by creating imovies of their work, and hand delivering cupcakes and graduation gifts to each child.
